They say, “What is neglected today, may trouble you tomorrow.”
This proverb fits the story of a young man , who came to me with a rather unusual problem in his hand.
The Struggle
He was a young male who had suffered an elbow injury years ago. At that time, the fracture around his lateral epicondyle had healed improperly, forming a malunion. He ignored it, thinking the pain was gone and the problem was over.
But slowly, he started experiencing weakness in his hand, numbness in his little finger and ring finger, and difficulty in gripping objects. His hand movements became clumsy, and he could no longer perform tasks that once seemed simple.
The Diagnosis
On examination, it became clear that he had developed Tardy Ulnar Nerve Palsy – a delayed complication caused by the malunited fracture pressing on the ulnar nerve at the elbow.
The Treatment
He underwent a surgical decompression and anterior transposition of the ulnar nerve. This delicate neurosurgical procedure relieved the pressure on the nerve and repositioned it in a safer pathway.
The Result
In the weeks that followed, he regained strength and sensation. The numbness reduced, his grip improved, and he was able to return to his daily activities without fear of dropping things.
This case reminds us that an old injury can cast a long shadow, but timely neurosurgical care can bring back strength and confidence.

ರೋಗಿಯ ಕಷ್ಟ
ಯುವಕನೊಬ್ಬ, ಹಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಮೈದಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಗಾಯಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದ. ಎಪಿಕಾಂಡೈಲ್ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಎಲುಬು ಮುರಿದು ತಪ್ಪಾಗಿ ಜೋಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು (malunion) ಗುಣಮುಖವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ನೋವು ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲವೆಂದು ಭಾವಿಸಿದ್ದ.
ಆದರೆ, ವರ್ಷಗಳ ನಂತರ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಶುರುವಾಯಿತು –
ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಲ ಕುಂದುವುದು
ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಬೆರಳು ಮತ್ತು ಉಂಗುರ ಬೆರಳಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಆಗುವುದು
ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಗಿಯಾಗಿ ಹಿಡಿಯಲು ಆಗದಿರುವುದು
ಅವನ ಕೈ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಕುಶಲತೆಯಿಲ್ಲದಂತಾಗಿದ್ದವು.
ತಪಾಸಣೆ
ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಿದಾಗ ಇದು ಟಾರ್ಡಿ ಉಲ್ನರ್ ನರ್ವ್ ಪಾಲ್ಸಿ ಎಂಬುದಾಗಿ ತೋರಿ ಬಂತು. ಹಿಂದಿನ ತಪ್ಪಾಗಿ ಜೋಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಎಲುಬಿನ ಒತ್ತಡದಿಂದ, ಉಲ್ನರ್ ನರ (Ulnar Nerve) ಒತ್ತಡಕ್ಕೊಳಗಾಗಿತ್ತು.
ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ
ಅವರಿಗೆ ಉಲ್ನರ್ ನರ್ವ್ ಡಿಕಂಪ್ರೆಷನ್ ಮತ್ತು ಆಂಟೀರಿಯರ್ ಟ್ರಾನ್ಸ್‌ಪೊಸಿಷನ್ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಇದು ನರವನ್ನು ಸುರಕ್ಷಿತ ದಾರಿಗೆ ಸರಿಸುವ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಕೆಲವು ವಾರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೈಯ ಬಲವು ಹಿಂತಿರುಗಿತು. ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಯಿತು, ಹಿಡಿತ ಬಲವಾಗಿ ಬಂತು, ಮತ್ತು ಅವರು ದೈನಂದಿನ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆತ್ಮವಿಶ್ವಾಸದಿಂದ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡರು.
